Under the Big Top is the place to be on Saturday, May 5, 2012 in Dearing, Georgia! The Annual Dearing Mayfest Festival is just around the corner and we want to invite everyone to join us to help celebrate a time of family fun. We will begin the day with our annual parade and will kick off the festival with the posting of colors by Thomson High JROTC Members. We have several groups scheduled to entertain us during the day including Mike Joye who will be performing county music and karaoke. Mike has served as our sound tech for several years and this year we want to feature him on our stage. In addition, we have several bands and groups scheduled and you will be sure to enjoy your style of music during the day.
We have several inflatables for all to enjoy and this year we have added a special feature of Carnival Games for the young and young at heart. As you stroll the grounds of the festival, visit our craft vendors and find that special gift created especially for you. Food vendors will be placed throughout the festival and we are sure you will want to taste all of the good food prepared by our food vendors.
Also, once the judging has been completed, you can purchase samples from the Miss Allene’s Hamburger cook-off. During the day, we will raffle off gift items that have been donated by local vendors and at the end of the festival; we will have our grand prize drawings for the 50/50 Raffles and for the 32’ LCD TV that was donated by Badcock Distribution Center from Thomson.
On site for the day we have scheduled Shepherd Blood Mobile if you want to donate blood. As summer is a critical needs time for blood donations, it would be great to have people donate. Be sure to follow guidelines that stress the need to eat a good meal prior to donating and to take the time to rest after you donate. You will need to hydrate properly. Our chairperson of the annual bake sale encourages anyone that wants to donate a cake or baked goods for the sale to just drop it off at the Mayfest. You will want to be sure to take some of the goodies home with you for your family to enjoy. We will have some of the Dearing Cookbooks available for purchase so that you can try your hand at baking the recipes of some of our wonderful Dearing Cooks!

The Dearing Mayfest Committee has been busy planning this year’s celebration. We have something that will please everyone! Join us on May 5,2012 in Dearing to share in the fun, shopping, food and entertainment. The day will start with the Parade at 9:00 am; followed by the Opening Ceremony at 9:30 am; and a variety of Entertainment and Dearing History Moments will be shared throughout the day from 10:00am to 4:00 pm.
One of the main attractions is our annual Burger Battle, a dedication to Miss Allene who cooked hamburgers for years in Dearing. Each contestant prepares 20 hamburgers from scratch to be judged by both the Official Hamburger Judges and the public choice awards. We challenge you to click here to enter the contest if you would like to be the new King of the Burgers! Winners will be announced at 1:00 pm.
Proceeds this year will go to The Good Samaritan House.
